President Obama’s intelligent use of the Internet

I signed a few White House petitions recently; yesterday I received an email from David Simas, The White House (, asking how I liked the President’s State of the Union Address. So, reports that Mr. Obama’s staff makes use of the Internet are true.

I’ve read that during the 2012 election campaign, Obama election staffers assumed that a large percentage of young voters didn’t have traditional landline telephones. Instead of the telephone, they used Twitter and Facebook as communication channels, and Salesforce as their workgroup’s database to manage potential voters. This is smart: used properly, a CRM (Client Relationship Management) system prevents prospects from “falling through the cracks”.

The Republicans, in contrast, relied upon old client management and communication methods, and failed.
