Hotmail now allows secure sessions

Logo: Microsoft

Now Hotmail sessions can be secured from eavesdroppers.

This is good news: Microsoft now allows Hotmail users to use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) between the Hotmail servers and Hotmail users. This will allow Hotmail users to access their mailboxes in public places (such as at Starbucks), without fear that all of their mailbox is exposed to nearby hackers.

I noticed about a month ago that Hotmail, which had previously defaulted to an insecure (http://) login screen, suddenly defaulted to a secure (https://) login screen. Within the past week, Hotmail now allows its users to use the https:// secure protocol for their entire Hotmail session. Kudos to Microsoft!
